Starbucks Drinks You Can Make at Home

By Alexis Sanchez on March 30, 2020

So, since we have all been doing our part and staying home as much as we should, it can get tricky to navigate still enjoying things you are used to getting out somewhere. Things like coffee and tea drinks from Starbucks! Also, Starbucks can be a bit on the pricey side and as a graduate student who needs to do a better job as saving money, I’ve learned how to be a barista at home and I would like to share my victories with you. Here are some Starbucks drinks you can make at home!

Caramel Macchiato

This is a drink that I actually used to not order that often because it’s not that cheap when you have modifications to make. It can be really good when Starbucks can modify your caramel macchiato the way you like, but it can be even better when you can just modify it on your own at home! First, you want to make sure you have a way to make espresso (the most convenient choice is an espresso machine, but the cheaper and classic way is a stovetop espresso maker!) and make sure to make two shots of espresso. Drizzle some caramel along the inside of your cup then fill up your cup halfway with ice. With your choice of milk, fill it up in your cup to cover up your ice then add in your espresso. Once you get here, the drink is technically done (you did it!). However, since I like to have a bit more of a coffee taste in my coffee, I also add in a teaspoon of mocha syrup and it tastes just right!

(Dirty) Chai Tea Latte

Now I’ve got to admit, I never order a chai tea latte without espresso but I also rarely buy this drink at Starbucks because it really adds up with the modifications I like to make to it (or every drink to be honest). When I looked up how to make it though, I was pleasantly surprised that it didn’t take much. Get yourself a container of Tazo Chai Tea (this is the brand Starbucks uses) and steam it if you want it hot or pour it over half a cup of ice if you want it iced. Then, you add in about 1/3 of your cup of milk or milk alternative. That’s it! You’ve made a Starbucks’ Chai Tea Latte! I like to sprinkle cinnamon on top because why not? Also, this is the time to add in two shots of espresso to make it a yummy dirty chai tea latte (my favorite).
